Nasolabial folds
The lines that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth. They are often a consequence of the midface descending rather than a problem in their own right.
Why we usually treat the cheek first
Filling the crease in isolation is the obvious answer and frequently the wrong one — it produces a heavier, less natural result and does nothing about the cause. Restoring support higher up often softens the fold on its own.
If direct treatment is appropriate, 1ml in total is typical. Duration is nine to twelve months from a single treatment; the eighteen-month figure you will see quoted depends on a top-up.
Downtime
Bruising for three to seven days, swelling for two to four, and a palpable firmness for about two weeks.
This is a higher-risk area
The nasolabial fold is named specifically by the Aesthetic Complications Expert Group as an area with a higher incidence of vascular occlusion, because of the facial, angular and lateral nasal arteries. It appeared in around 15% of cases in a review of filler-related blindness. It is not a beginner's area and we do not treat it as one.
